Backup & Disaster Recovery

Backup and disaster recovery, tested before you need it.

Automated cloud backups, offsite copies in Australian data centres by default, and recovery we rehearse on a schedule. The goal is simple: a failed server, a fat-fingered deletion or a ransomware hit becomes a planned recovery, not a bad month. You get clear RPO and RTO targets, and a real Australian engineer running the restore.

A backup you've never restored isn't a plan

Plenty of businesses back up religiously, then discover on the worst possible day that the job was failing silently, or the restore takes three days nobody can afford.

Backups without a recovery plan

  • Jobs "run green" but nobody has ever tested a restore
  • One copy, on the same network ransomware can reach
  • No idea how much data or time an outage would cost
  • No runbook, so recovery depends on one person's memory

With Cloudaid

  • Recovery rehearsed on a schedule (quarterly on Priority and above), with a signed-off result
  • Immutable, air-gapped copies built to resist ransomware
  • Agreed RPO and RTO targets, in writing, per workload
  • A DR runbook anyone on the team can follow under pressure

Everything a real recovery needs

Backup and DR is one connected service, from the nightly job through to the tested restore.

Automated backups

Scheduled, monitored backups of your servers, endpoints and Microsoft 365. You get an alert the moment a job fails, not weeks later.

Australian-region offsite copies

A second and third copy kept offsite in Australian data centres by default, and we can show you exactly where each copy lives.

Tested recovery

We restore from your backups on a schedule and check it actually works, because a green backup job you've never restored is not a plan.

Ransomware protection

Immutable, air-gapped backups designed so an attacker can't encrypt or delete them, giving you a clean copy to restore instead of paying a ransom.

DR runbooks

A documented, step-by-step recovery plan that sets out priorities, dependencies and owners, so anyone can follow it under pressure.

RPO & RTO targets

Clear, written recovery-point and recovery-time targets per workload, so you know exactly how much data loss and downtime each one is planned for.

// rpo & rto tiers

Recovery targets, matched to the workload

Not everything needs sub-hour recovery. We tier each system so you pay for speed only where it earns its keep. Targets below are illustrative. Yours are agreed in your DR plan.

RPO up to 24 hours · daily backups
  • Nightly automated backups
  • Onshore offsite copy
  • Annual restore test

Priority

RPO around 1 hour · hourly snapshots
  • Everything in Standard
  • Immutable, ransomware-resilient copies
  • Quarterly recovery test & runbook
Mission-critical
<1 hr RTO
RPO around 15 minutes · continuous replication
  • Everything in Priority
  • Warm standby / rapid failover
  • Engineer-led recovery, priority response in business hours

Backup & Disaster Recovery FAQs

What's the difference between RPO and RTO?
RPO (recovery point objective) is how much data you can afford to lose, measured in time. An RPO of one hour means backups run at least hourly, so a failure sets you back an hour at most. RTO (recovery time objective) is how long recovery is allowed to take before you're running again. We agree both per workload, so critical systems get tight targets and less-urgent ones cost less to protect.
How often do you test recovery?
Standard tier gets an annual restore test; Priority and Mission-critical are tested quarterly, and we sign off the result each time so you have evidence that recovery works. Backup jobs themselves are monitored continuously, so a failed or missed job raises an alert straight away rather than being discovered during a real outage.
What is disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS)?
DRaaS means your recovery environment lives in the cloud, ready to spin up, rather than sitting in a server cupboard waiting to fail with everything else. If your primary systems go down, we fail over to standby copies and work to get you running again within your agreed RTO target, then fail back to normal once the incident is resolved. You get enterprise-grade recovery without buying and maintaining a second site.
Are our backups kept in Australia?
Yes, by default. Your offsite copies are held in Australian data centres, which matters for privacy obligations and for anyone with data-residency requirements. We can walk you through exactly where each copy lives.
Can you recover from a ransomware attack?
That's exactly what tested, immutable backups are for. Because at least one copy is air-gapped and immutable, it's designed to stay out of reach of an attacker who encrypts your live systems. We restore from a known-good point before the infection and get you running again, so paying a ransom doesn't need to be on the table.
